Featured Highlights

  • Lancaster House. This historic house is located near Buckingham Palace and provides an impressive setting in a prestigious central location on London's iconic Pall Mall.

Steeped in political history and beautifully preserved, Lancaster House was used by Winston Churchill to give a coronation banquet for the newly crowned Queen Elizabeth II in June 1953. More recently, the long gallery has been used for a number of top-level international summits, wedding receptions, fashion shows and filming. Lancaster House has been used to host receptions and shows during London Fashion Week. It has also been extensively used for filming, including BBC/HBO’s production of Churchill at War, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, The King’s Speech, and Netflix’s The Crown.

Lancaster House is operated by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.
  • Dartmouth HOUSE. Once a private family home, historic Dartmouth House is a wonderful example of Georgian architecture in Central London's Mayfair. It now serves as the headquarters of the English-Speaking Union (ESU), a partner organisation of the International Churchill Society.

The original building was constructed in the mid-18th century. William Legge, 6th Earl of Dartmouth, purchased the house in 1900 and made the most significant changes to the house's interior by creating the Long and Small Drawing Rooms. The house was used as the Dartmouth family home until the outbreak of war in 1914 when the British Red Cross used it as a military hospital.

Dartmouth House was purchased by the English-Speaking Union in 1926 for the sum of £45,000. It was formally opened as the London Headquarters of the ESU by the Prime Minister, Sir Stanley Baldwin, on 22 February 1927.

Dartmouth House has been listed Grade II on the National Heritage List for England since December 1987.

  • National gallery. The National Gallery is an art museum located in Trafalgar Square in the City of Westminster, in Central London. The museum was founded in the year 1824 and has been located in Trafalgar Square since 1838. The museum is home to an impressive collection of over 2,300 paintings that date back from the mid-13th century.

The present building is the third site to house the National Gallery, which was designed by architect William Wilkins. The construction of the building took place between 1832 and 1838, when it first opened its doors. The facade onto Trafalgar Square has remained essentially unchanged since that time. The Sainsbury Wing, which is an extension to the west, was added in 1991 by Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown. It is considered a significant example of Postmodernist architecture in Britain.

The National Gallery contains 224 portraits of Winston Churchill.
